Learn how to volunteer for us!

Want to get involved in the Carver Journal? Here’s how:

The Carver Journal is seeking volunteer, unpaid contributors to help bring back consistent local news to town. We don’t require any background in journalism, just a desire to keep your community in the know. We can provide training in journalistic techniques, writing skills and photography skills as you tackle your first story. Also, we can coordinate how to best get you involved based on your interests and availability.

Qualifications:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Contributors under 18 may participate with written permission from a parent or guardian and coordination with their school.
  • You care about local news in Carver and want to get stories about its people and events out in the world.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to check facts. News contributors are expected to leave personal opinions out of their reporting.
  • Commitment to fairness, accuracy and accountability in reporting.
  • You do not hold any political office in town or state government, as this would be a conflict of interest.
  • No journalism experience or reporting skills are required. Writing, photography, editing and reporting can all be trained. A willingness and excitement to get involved and inform the town is what matters most!

Responsibilities may include:

  • Writing, drafting and editing stories for publication in the Carver Journal.
  • Drafting social media posts and taking photographs for the Journal.
  • Developing website themes and ideas for the Journal’s content management system.
  • Pitching and conducting pre-research to develop story ideas for the site.

If you’re interested in joining, please send an email to Editor-in-chief Nick Mossman at nick@carverjournal.com or call him at 508-591-5904.

The Carver Journal does not currently have a formal standalone internship program. Student contributors are welcome to apply as volunteers and can work with Editor-in-chief Nick Mossman for guidance on stories and editing. If you are a school/college/university instructor and interested in partnering with us, please reach out at the contact information above.
