Carver has become a news desert. In 2022, the Carver Reporter stopped publishing, leaving Carver without a local news source to fairly and accurately report on town government and events. First launched in June 2024, The Carver Journal seeks to help fill some of the gap that was left. The news site provides comprehensive coverage of Carver’s most important events to help ensure that the public is engaged and informed.
While regular coverage is ideal, our staff is volunteer-based and limited in capacity. We do not have the same output capabilities as a professional newspaper. Many hands do make light work, and if you are interested in becoming a volunteer staff writer for the Carver Journal, please reach out. Journalism experience is always welcome, but it is not required. I am happy to train anyone who is interested in learning to write news stories.
Our mission: The Carver Journal strives to publish accurate information about news and events happening around our town. Our goal is to increase residents’ knowledge about what’s going on in Carver, promoting public engagement and awareness.
Who We Are
Nick Mossman, Founder and Editor
Nick Mossman is a politics and data reporter with experience running publications, local reporting and covering news in print, video and social media formats. He is pursuing an M.S. in Data Journalism at Columbia Journalism School.
He received a B.A. with a triple major in Journalism, Political Science and Latin American, Latino & Iberian Studies from the University of Richmond in May 2026. He is the former Editor-in-chief of the student newspaper at UR, The Collegian. Nick founded The Carver Journal in 2024 after Carver lost its print newspaper, the Carver Reporter. He is currently the outlet’s only reporter and focuses on local government and politics coverage.
