Updated: 911 is back after outage disrupts service in Carver, rest of state

Service is back after an outage disrupted 911 calls in Carver and across the commonwealth.

Massachusetts state 911 service has been restored, according to the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 18, 911 call service went down in a statewide outage, including in Carver.

At 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, the Carver Police Department posted that 911 was “back up and running.” In a post from the Carver Fire Department, the department wrote “DO NOT call 911 as a test to see if it’s working.”

In case of emergencies, residents were asked to call 508-866-2121 instead of 911, according to the Carver Police Department.

According to the post from the police department, Carver landline calls were being rerouted to Kingston and cell phone calls appeared to be inoperable. The department encouraged residents in need of emergency assistance to call via landline if possible.

The disruption is part of a greater outage that left towns across the state without access to 911 call services. According to a statewide public safety alert, the outage could have caused delays in public safety response.

According to a post from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, the state 911 department is aware of a disruption to the system and “is investigating the cause.”
