Who’s running in Carver’s town elections?

Carver will have just two competitive races in April’s elections after candidates were finalized on Tuesday, March 24.

The upcoming elections include contested races for Planning Board and one for School Committee. All other offices on the ballot are uncontested, with open seats for each candidate running.

Incumbent Stephanie Clougherty, incumbent Jacqueline Lake and newcomer Peter Allegrini are running for two School Committee seats that have three-year terms.

Town Moderator Alan Germain is challenging incumbent Cornelius Shea for a five-year term on the Planning Board.

The Select Board race is now uncontested, with two candidates running for two seats after Select Board member Jim Hoffman withdrew from the ballot Monday last week.

“I am finishing up my second three year term and feel it’s time to get some “new blood” on the board,” Hoffman wrote in a Facebook post

While Hoffman did not endorse a candidate in his statement, James “Jim” Elliman, who is a member of the town’s Finance Committee and Redevelopment Authority, filed to run for the seat as a newcomer to the board.

Incumbent Select Board member Dan Ryan is running for reelection.

Catherine Nolan and incumbent Marie Zweigman are running uncontested for two Library Trustee positions that have three-year terms.

Incumbent Kim Shea is running unopposed for a three-year term as a North Carver Water District Commissioner.

Incumbent Ellen Blanchard is running unopposed for a three-year term on the town’s Board of Assessors.

Incumbent Eric Mueller is running unopposed for a three-year term on the Carver Board of Health.

Incumbent Johanna Leighton is running for reelection to a five-year term on the Carver Redevelopment Authority.

Heidi Miles is running unopposed for a five-year term on the Carver Housing Authority.

Polls will be open on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carver Middle High School gymnasium. According to Town Clerk Cara Dahill, early in-person voting will be at the Town Clerk’s Office in Carver Town Hall on Tuesday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

As of Monday, March 30, absentee ballots are not available, but are expected next week, according to Dahill. Once available, voters can apply for absentee ballots at the Town Clerk’s office or on the town’s website
