Things to do in Carver: June 15 to June 21

With the summer solstice right around the corner, Carver has a plethora of events this week to get residents out and about. Check out the top picks for this week below:

Support Carver football

Carver’s Mamma Mia’s is hosting a fundraiser for Carver Youth Football on Monday, June 15.

The restaurant is donating 15% of all food and soft drink sales to the football program. Show your server a screenshot of the event link here to support the team. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

African dance and drum

The council on aging is drumming up a good time with an Ammaya African Dance and Drum event on Monday, June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Council on Aging.

According to the Council on Aging, the program “combines music and movement to inspire participants with positive energy and a renewed zest for life.” Participants will learn about authentic West African base drums which are played with sticks. They will also learn about the significance of the Juneteenth holiday.

The program is sponsored by the Carver Cultural Council. Contact Alice to register at 508-866-4698 x3 or via email at alice.mcmahon@carverma.gov.

Books and brews

The LiteraTour Mobile Book Store will stop at Brewery 44 in North Carver for residents to sip brews and shop for books on Tuesday, June 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The book store will be at the brewery for two hours, which according to organizers, is plenty of time to eat pizza, have a drink and browse for your next read.

A nostalgic shopping trip

Take a step back in time to the days of Filene’s Basement and Bradlee’s with the Council on Aging Wednesday, June 17 at 12:30 p.m.

The council is hosting Nancy Franks, a local public speaker and educator, who will teach about the origins and demise of America’s old retail stores. Franks’ presentation will be followed by a shopping-themed raffle.

Register with Alice at 508-866-4698 x3 or via email at alice.mcmahon@carverma.gov.
