Meet Jackie Lake: Carver School Committee candidate

Incumbent Jackie Lake is running for the Carver School Committee after first being elected in 2023. Lake said that she’s driven to run for reelection to the committee by her passion for community building.

“I’m a person who’s always getting involved in volunteer work,” Lake said.

While on the school committee, Lake said that she’s worked on its inclusion group since she started. As part of the group, Lake said that the school district developed an African American studies course for high school students.

Outside of the committee, Lake works in case management with people who have mental health and medical issues.

“I have been within the community for a very long time and I know a lot of the resources that are around so it really helps me when making or just coming to the table and having ideas for our district,” Lake said.

Lake said that her experience helps with neutral decisionmaking, thinking out of the box and her communication skills as part of the committee.

“I feel like it really has a pull on my decisions,” she said.

While Lake has served on the school committee since 2023, in her new term, she hopes to continue to combat bullying in Carver Public Schools. In particular, working with the committee’s inclusion group to develop mitigation strategies.

“I want the children to be able to feel like they can belong,” Lake said.

Polls are open for Carver’s annual town elections, including the school committee race, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at the Carver Middle High School gymnasium.
