About The Carver Journal

Carver has become a news desert. Two years ago, the Carver Reporter stopped publishing, leaving Carver without a local news source to fairly and accurately report on town government and events. The Carver Journal seeks to help fill some of the gap that was left. The news site provides comprehensive coverage of Carver’s most important events to help ensure that the public is engaged and informed. The site was launched in June 2024 by a local college student.

Please be patient as we get started, while regular coverage is ideal, I am the only current reporter, and volunteer my time to devote to this project. I work full-time outside of this, and unfortunately do not have the same capacity as a professional local newspaper. Many hands make light work though, and if you are interested in becoming a volunteer staff writer for the Carver Journal, please reach out. While journalism experience is preferred, I am happy to train anyone who is interested in learning to write news stories.

About the Writer:

Nick Mossman, Founder and Editor

nick@carverjournal.com

My name is Nick Mossman and I’ve grown up here in Carver. I am an undergraduate student at the University of Richmond where I study journalism and political science. I will be entering my junior year this fall. I decided to start the Carver Journal after seeing a lack of local news coverage in our town since the Carver Reporter stopped operating. I hope to cover events as I am able to help fill that gap that was left a couple years ago.

I have published articles in the South London Press, UR’s Capitol News Service, and in the Wareham Week and Dartmouth Week newspapers. I have also written and edited in the City & State section for my university’s newspaper, The Collegian. As a self-proclaimed political junkie, I am most excited to cover local government, but I am ready to cover a breadth of topics that are important to the town. If you are interested, please check out my journalism portfolio which samples some articles that I have written for other publications. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.
